Equipment Operator_Groundskeeping

Job Summary: under the supervision of the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendents or Mechanic, perform routine work involving the use of large equipment, including tractors, rollers, loaders, trenchers, backhoes, trucks and all mowing and other specialized turf equipment.

Licenses and Special Requirements
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Education, Experience, and/or Preferred Qualifications

  • Some formal Turfgrass and/or related experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of safe, efficient mechanical operation of equipment.
Job Tasks/Competencies
  • Operates various types of turf equipment, including but not limited to; walk behind mowers, triplex mowers, greens rollers, bank mowers, large area rough mowers, pull behind rough mowers, utility carts, aerifiers and blowers.
  • Ensures that the equipment cooling system is always working; refills proper fuel and oil as needed each day, cleans equipment daily and reports equipment problems or failures to Equipment Manager immediately.
  • Provides basic preventive maintenance on equipment as directed by the equipment manager or superintendent or assistant superintendents.
  • Performs other duties as directed by his/her supervisor.
  • Physical strength and stamina to perform specified duties during all types of weather conditions essential.
  • Mechanical Aptitude.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
  • Must be able to work cooperatively in a variety of situations with minimal supervision.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping and pulling.
  • Frequent repetitive motions.
  • Continuous standing, sitting or walking.
  • May frequently need to use protective equipment, such as respirator, gloves, earplugs, eye protection, visors, boots, suits and hat.
  • Physical demands include, but are not limited to standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, laying, climbing using arms, legs and feet, balancing, bending, twisting, stretching, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or moving up to 100lbs or more.

Work Environment

  • Indoor and Outdoor work required; occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme heat or cold.
  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
  • Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • Must be able to meet and perform the physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical for this position.

Travel Requirements

  • Some local travel may be required periodically.
